No Uniforms

Dear Superintendent O'Malley
“When we lose the right to be different we lose the privilege to be free.” This quote is portraying the fact that choosing to look different, is part of being free. A proposal has recently been made to the Board of Education to make school uniforms required. If approved, this would become effective to the student body in grades K-12. Deciding to go along with this proposal would bring more negative effects than good. School uniforms would not be good in the current economy, uniforms don’t help academic performance, and uniforms limit freedom of expression.
First, school uniforms would not be good in the current economy of our country. Currently, our country is in an economic crisis. So many people are being frugal and conserving their money so they do not go into major debt. For some, they cannot afford to buy any more than what they need. Making school uniforms a requirement would hurt and inconvenience those who already have many clothes, and those who cannot afford to buy anymore. Although some say the cost of uniforms would be worth it, others would not agree because of the financial needs of others. Also the inconveniences of buying clothes that are not going to be worn outside of school. The cost of buying school uniforms would not benefit the populace in an economical crisis.
Secondly, adding school uniforms does not have a significant influence on the academic performance of the student body. A study was done of the effects of school uniforms on the student body of some schools. Supporters of school uniforms claimed that instead of focusing on clothing, students would focus more on their studies. But the studies made proved that school uniforms had no significant influence on the academic performance of the student body. Therefore it would be a waste of funds on the behalf of the school board to purchase uniforms that would not help a student’s performance.
Finally, wearing school uniforms takes away a part of a student’s freedom of self-expression. Many youth, in general, express their personality through what they wear. Applying required uniforms to schools may make some students that they do not like or are uncomfortable wearing. Taking away someone’s right to self-expression is wrong. Although some advocates of school uniforms think that students can express themselves in other ways, not allowing someone to wear what they like is still taking away that freedom of self-expression. Everyone has the right to express themselves in whatever way they please. But applying school uniforms takes away part of that right.
Making school uniforms a requirement would bring more negative effects than good. Uniforms would not be in the best interest of those in financial need. Uniforms do not help improve the academic performance of students. And uniforms limit the ability of students to express themselves. To ignore the state of the populace and the right of self-expression would be a huge mistake.
          Sincerely, Jayden Morton

Dell Gamer Pro Boardroom Essay

Hello Dell Inc., My name is Jayden Morton and I would like to introduce you to my new line of gaming computers. My most notable version is what I call the Gamer Pro. Selling my Gamer Pro would give you a massive edge over your rival Apple Inc., and other companies. Considering the fact that sixty-eight percent of the American public play computer or computer related games, this would be a great business opportunity for you. Especially due to the fact that neither you nor Apple currently have gaming computers on the market. And for an affordable price, I can ship a quantity to your distribution center for consumer evaluation. Also, for the same price and can ship more to your centers when the need arises.
The " Gamer Pro" is the latest and greatest in computer technology. With 2360 MB of memory, it has twice the storage space of your latest computer. A 9.0 Ghz processor makes my computer faster than any you currently produce. My "Gamer Pro" is so powerful, that it can control all of the logistic systems of a city the size of New York.

The "Gamer Pro" is great for multi-tasking. It has duel super drives and a the best liquid cooling system available. Making it fast and able to run for hours without overheating. A 24" LCD monitor allows three different programs to be displayed on one with eight inches of space per program. No other computer in the world has this one of a kind ability. Which is what I am offering to you.
My computer is also the best in the gaming category. The "Gamer Pro" delivers blue-ray quality video. And, it delivers the smoothest game-play experience ever on a computer. Rivaling that of the X-box 360 and the PS3. Also, with the additional purchase of a custom made receiver bar and an HDMI cable consumers can play their computer games on their TV.This is made more convenient with the inclusion of a wireless keyboard and mouse included in the package. Consumers would love to have this feature available to them.
Internet viruses and computer hackers are no problem with the "Gamer Pro" unlike other computers. Encrypted coding allows for a safe and secure internet experience. This type of security is not on any other company's consumer line. The moment you hit save, a duplicate of that file is automatically saved to a second hard rive at one of our secure locations. Also, the firewalls used by most major industries are included in security.
Although you have many more proposals to hear please give considerable thought to mine. Not selling my computer would be a mistake. You would be missing out on an incredible business opportunity. You should take my offer before Apple get close to this technology. Doing so would be a decision that you will not regret.

Reflection on My Commercial

My commercial was about Fanta. I am satisfied with this end product, but there are areas that I could improve on.
I liked my advertisement because it was funny, creative, and well thought out. While filming my commercial, I felt I was good at being funny, memorizing my lines (few), and doing imitations (bad). There were elements I could have improved on though. For example, I should have tried to remain focused more, tried not to laugh in the middle of scenes, and I should have put more elements into each scene. Also, I should have included more and talked more about Fanta in my commercial. Therefor enticing the viewer to buy Fanta after seeing so much of it. What I liked most about the commercial was writing the script because I got to be very creative and add in humor. Also, I liked collaborating with my partner (Sherwin) to discuss ideas for the advertisement. My goals for next time are to make my ad funnier, endorse the product better, and have the video edited better. While I was working on my commercial, I discovered a few things about myself.

1: I laugh too much.
2: It is hard for me to stay in character during a funny scene.
3: I am a TERRIBLE actor.
The mentor authors who acted as an inspiration for my ad were Fanta commercials, NigaHiga, and his How To videos.
You can see their effects come through throughout my ad. They especially stand out when the narrator (me) throws the video at Nerd (Sherwin), and when Nerd gets bullied by the gangster (me).
Overall, I think my commercial was very funny, fun to make, and I am satisfied with it.

Ad Campaign

I have seen so many different ads that it is starting to get annoying. But my favorite on was about a Volkswagen which I saw during the Super Bowl. A little kid dressed up as Darth Vader was trying to make things move by using his hands like "Force Wielders" do in the Star Wars movies. Every time he tries he fails and get sad. When his dad gets home, the kid tries to use The Force on the car, which is a Volkswagen and activates it. The little kid is happy, but it was really his dad using the remote star on the keys to turn on the car. This was funny to me at the end. Volkswagen tried to advertise a car in a funny way. What I didn't like about the commercial was that they hadn't explained much about the car, enticing less people to possibly buy it. This was still pretty funny. A little more entertaining than those old commercials that just show the car driving.

The College and Career Unit

Over the course of this unit I have learned many valuable things that will help me in the future. How to do research, write a resume, write a college essay, and even how to go through an interview! Also choosing which college is best for me.
During the beginning of the unit I learned about high school schedules what colleges expect you to do in high school to be excepted. Later on, I focused in how to get accepted by the college of my choice. During this time I  even had to complete an application. Then I had to research different majors and which colleges offered the one I wanted and fit my criteria. And how to get along with my professors!
For the remainder of the unit, I focused on choosing an occupation and how to actually get the job. I had to learn how to write a resume. Also, I had to write my own letter of recommendation and answer job interview questions.
After I had my interview with Mr. Figueroa and when all this is finished I will keep my college and career folder along with all the important papers I received ( resume, application, etc. ) in a safe place. By the time I am in high school and college I will take these notes out and study them so that I can be successful .

Personal Esssay; My Mom

There is a person who I have always admired. In fact, she is the one of the most important people I know. She is my mom.
My mom is a very hard worker. She used to always leave for work at 7:00 in the morning and come back around 9:00 at night. That was before my stepfather came into the picture. Now she spends her weekdays home looking after my two little brothers. But she works all day on the weekends and picks up overtime when she can. She does this because she knows that you can't support a family of five with only one person working. My mom wants the best for my brothers and I so she does what needs to be done. My mom shows great character qualities of responsibility, trust, and perseverance.
From when I was old enough I was taught to show these qualities too. My mom told me that there are many ways to show that I have these qualities. To show perseverance, I never give up on my ride to a lake in Texas with my cousin even though it is very hot outside. To show trust, I always watch over things when people ask me too. To show responsibility, I should always keep my things organized.
This is a great start which can lead to a great end. I believe that if I try my best to complete every small task in a responsible manner, I can have the finish that will allow me to prevail in my goals.

Technology

Technology surrounds us. It comes in forms of cell phones, television, i pods. and the internet. Everybody uses technology everyday whether it be for entertainment or education. Way back in the Dark Ages people didn't have all of this. If they wanted to get all the problems on their math homework right, they had to pay attention in class. Now, we can just Google an answer we don't now. If they wanted to do a report on someone, they had to read about them in the library. Now, we just Google them.
Nowadays, people do almost everything on the computer. They read, watch videos, do research etc. Many of us think of better things to do with the internet other than homework. We go on You tube and find something interesting to watch while we study. The next day, even if we studied all night we wouldn't remember everything because of half your mind being drawn to the video. And since people would rather do something else they plagiarize to get the work done faster. These people get great grades if they are ever so lucky not to get caught.
The internet can make peoples educational and social lives smaller. We have a huge world to explore and it all belongs to us. Even with six billion people living on our planet there are still things from ancient times yet to be found. And adventures people would rather stay at home and go on You tube than experience. Eventually, all this use of technology for entertainment rather than education will come back and bite us. Than those lazy people who wasted their schools days playing instead of preparing themselves will be sorry. Expand your minds by cutting back on your use of technology and go live life. Don't be alone in a room  missing out on great adventures.

Welcome Ms. Carroll

Welcome to Herbert Hoover Middle School Ms.Carroll. You are in for a surprise from your new students. MY name is Jayden. I am the oldest one in my family and the one my brothers and younger cousins look up to. I am from James Monroe Elementary School. I like to play video games, ride my bike, and play football with my friends. I get driven to school by my parents. I like middle school because I get to work with friends I don't see in other classes. Also, I like how we switch classes so the day goes by really fast. And this makes the school year go by faster. I work hard but I am a chatterbox which sometimes gets me into trouble. I hate homework, so please try to keep it to a minimal. I like English because it is easy and helps you a lot. I like doing vocab before tests and using the computers. I hope you enjoy teaching us.

Career Goals for Me

In only six more years I will be planning on which career I choose to pursue and college to attend. I've always had my eye on becoming an FBI agent. From the very beginning I hated the idea of sitting in an office cubical and punching numbers into a computer for 10 hours a day.I want to play my part in society and keep people safe. I like this job because it fits my talents. I would help investigate the scene of a crime since I'm good at science and math.
I want to go to college at Harvard or Rutgers University. These are both great colleges, especially the prestigious Harvard. At one pf these schools I would major in Law and get either a Bachelor's or Master's degree Since one of these is required for my job.
I hope I can get a job here in New Jersey. I have lived in New Jersey all my life and wouldn't like to live anywhere else ( accept Hawaii).
Even with college seems very far away, with hard work and determination I can achieve my goal.

My Resolutions

The start of the new year is a great time to contemplate what you plan to do with yourself in the coming year. This year the resolution I plan to work on is becoming more organized. This is my main resolution because I hate losing things.  I often become extremely stressed trying to locate important things that I have misplaced; this tends to happen more than I would like with my schoolwork.  My plan to become more organized is to make a list of my things and keep track of where they are. If I can  can keep up with this, then I will be on the road to making my life much easier.

Steroids Just Aren’t worth I t

An anonymous player says that about 40 percent of NFL players use steroids. This is a big percent of players. Steroids have many health risks that come along with prolonged use. Steroids are bad and are not worth using.
As said before steroids have many health risks that come with their use. Some of these health risks include severe acne, an increase in bad cholesterol, possible development of tumors in the kidney and liver, and a premature stop to bone growth and lengthening. Yet, football players still use steroids despite these risks. Athletes who use steroids are foolish. They should be more concerned about their own health rather than their sports career.
Steroids give an unfair advantage to any athlete who uses them. Having an advantage over someone while you legitimately gained it is perfectly fine. Gaining it by using a growth drug is wrong. Sports are about honest competition between players, using drugs to increase your ability just utterly ruins the sport. Honest competition has no meaning anymore if athletes are willing to use growth drugs. Using drugs for self improvement in competition is selfish.
Steroids are an illegal substance in the United States. Athletes still use steroids even though the United States government has declared them illegal. Steroids give them enhanced ability but use can be prevented by more often screenings. If caught using steroids athletes should be kicked out of their sport and face criminal charges. And they should not be allowed back in to their league.
Steroids are an illegal substance and bring with them many health risks upon their use. Any athlete caught using steroids should face severe and criminal consequences upon being caught. Anyone who does use them is a fool. Steroids are wrong and should never be used no matter what.

Christmas Music

Everyone knows that when you hear Christmas music you know the holiday is near. When you hear this you better start shopping for gifts. Christmas music is always a sign to be prepared to have a good time with family. Christmas music is very cheerful and warms you up inside so much. But, after a while it gets a little annoying
 hearing it all.
I love the holidays. They are a time of love, joy, and happiness. No other holiday shows this more than Christmas. Christmas has many characteristics... trees, decorations, presents, and music. Christmas music is sweet and catchy and you should always play it. It's a great way to show your spirit. Just don't over do it. This happens all the time. People start playing holiday music way before they should. And in my family they play it over and over again. This applies not only to holidays. Holiday music should bring warmth to your heart, not annoy the heck out of you. It may seem OK to some people to play the music so much but to most it is annoying. So if you play holiday music go ahead with it, just take into mind other people.

My letter to SAnta Clause

This coming Christmas I hope you are able to brighten my smile with the gift of a PS3 under my Christmas tree. This would be a great addition to my entertainment ability of my house.  I have worked diligently in my life that I think I am worthy of this award.
Currently, In my house I have a Wii and a PS2.  I play my PS2 and Wii often, not just for my own entertainment but for that of my friends who come over.  But both of these game systems lack online multi-player.  This is something that the PS3 has.  Many of my friends have the PS3 and frequently go online  to play with other gamers.  My friends don’t come over often and I don’t go over to their houses often.  The PS3 would allow me to play video games with them more often.  I would be able to play with many more players then the PS2’s multi-player capacity of two.  Also the PS3’s wireless controller would be more convenient for me by not limiting me to the distance of the wired controller of the PS2.  Allowing people to walk in front of me and not risk tripping on the extended cord.
As a young gamer I tend to want to play more and more video games with my friends.  The high online multi-player capacity of the PS3 would allow me to play with my friends from the comfort of our own homes.  The PS3 would allow me to host matches of my own and meet new people.   It’s like Facebook, but we get to play video games while chatting.  Unfortunately my relatives have already bought me games for the PS3 and I would hate to see the look on their faces when I don’t have a PS3 and they spent money on games for nothing.  Having a PS3 would be a great way to make sure that my relatives money does not go to waste.
Around this time of year I know how you are flooded with requests and letters from children across the world. I hope that you will fulfill my request.  Even if you are unable to grant my wish, I am still thankful for all that you have brought me throughout my life.

The origins of Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving, every November 26th we celebrate it. We celebrate this holiday to give thanks for all the good things that happened to us over the past year. This all started back in 1620. The pilgrims left England to the New World, what we call America. During the summer of 1621 the pilgrims experienced a severe drought which threatened the corn crops. So they commissioned a day of fasting and prayer to please God so he would bring forth a bountiful harvest that coming harvest. God heard their prayers and it rained later that day, saving the crops.Later that year during harvest season the pilgrims organized a great feast to thank God for his favor. ( The rain that saved the crops.) And today we celebrate Thanksgiving by having a great meal with our families and thanking God for our blessings.

Gratitude

Everybody has to be thankful for at least one thing in their lives. I am thankful for many things. One thing I am very thankful for is my education. I am thankful for this because many people around the world don't have the opportunity to go to school and get an education. An education is one of the most important things that someone can have. Education is something that is needed in order to have a good job and be successful in life. But for  those who don't have an education, their future may not be as bright. So I am thankful that I am one of those who has an education and the opportunity to have a bright future.

Halloween Candy

Candy, candy, candy. That all that people think about this time of year, candy. Candy, the sweet little treats that our parents don't recomend buying. Halloween is what everybody waits for all year long. The time when kids go house to house getting candy, and that parents sit at home relaxing and being glad that today they don't have to hear the words," Can you buy me some candy?". But with my brother and others the next day when your at the store they ask," Can I have some candy?". But back to Halloween, you just wander around overloading your bag with candy. Halloween candy is special. It's the only candy covered in those special edition rappers. And when you get home you just try to eat it all and get the greatest sugar rush ever. But if you don't then you get a huge supply of candy to yourself. So if you want the most candy possible, on Sunday start trick or treating early to beat everyone else. Happy Holloween! Oh, and don't forget to enjoy your bounty.
